I left my heart in Blythedale.

A picturesque beach front that stretches for miles, a cool breeze blowing through my hair, the clear sky standing out proudly in its radiant blue colour, and in front of me for as far as the eye can see is the beautiful Indian Ocean.

Oh Blythedale you have stolen my heart. 💖

Blythedale is situated just 45 minutes outside of Durban’s bustling CBD, on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Blythedale Beach is a small village situated in the Blythedale Conservancy. As there are regular sightings of Bottle-Nose dolphins the region was also given the name “Dolphin Coast”.

Earlier this year I had an opportunity to spend a few days in Blythedale. A mere hour’s flight from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to King Shaka International Airport in Durban was the first leg of my Journey.

At King Shaka International Airport I was greeted by Reece from King Shaka Shuttle Services. As Blythedale is +/- a 40 minute drive north of the airport, I thought it would be fitting to get a shuttle service to take me there. With King Shaka Shuttle Services I arrived safely and on time at my destination. I found their services to be professional, affordable and their drivers exceptionally friendly. If you would like to know more about King Shaka Shuttle Services, or if you would like to use their services then you can go to their website https://www.kingshakashuttles.co.za.

Once we had arrived at my destination and I had checked into my self-catering B Villa in Minivillas, my luggage was taken to my villa and when I turned around I was treated to this spectacular sight…

Minivillas is A.A. recommended self-catering villas owned and managed by Jenni Ruttledge and is situated on Umvoti Drive in front of Blythedale Beach. There are 3 types of villas: The ‘A’ Villas which are situated on the first line beach front with the exception of one on the second line next to the ‘B’ Villas. As already mentioned the B Villas are situated on the second line and overlook the pool area and the sea. The Hacienda Duplex is the largest unit and is privately sited 160 metres from the beach overlooking the complex and sea.

As this was a solo trip I spend my days on the beach front, unwinding by the pool or I would take a walk down Umvoti Drive and explore Blythedale. Further down Umvoti Drive you can find private residence and other holiday Villas. There is a curio shop and basic amenity store in Dolphin Crescent at the top of the village. The main public entrance to the beach is in front of the Minivillas’ offices, but Minivillas has it’s own private entrance to the beach. So if I was no where to be found you knew I was soaking up the sun on Blythedale Beach. Blythedale Beach is protected by shark nets and is popular for swimming, surfing and fishing.

An unusual, but not rare sight would be our daily visit from the monkeys. They would visit me by the pool, jump on top of my villa, run across the roads and swing through the trees. These cute creatures are harmless, but it is advised not to feed them and keep your windows and doors closed if you are not indoors.

Traveling solo can be rewarding in so many ways. You learn more about yourself and this inspires growth. My time at Minivillas was a pleasant experience and the staff and guests alike were always friendly. If you are planning a solo or family trip soon and would like to know more about Minivillas, then you can visit their website ➡ Minivillas

My journey ended too soon and before I knew it Neel my driver from King Shaka Shuttle Services had come to fetch me and drive me back to King Shaka International Airport. I have fond memories of my time in Blythedale and I left my heart there until we meet again.

HanDMadE from the Heart💖

South Africa is known for it’s beautiful landscapes, ocean views, cultures and traditions, but we are also a talented and gifted nation too. We are known for our love of crafts and handmade products that are made from the heart and represent what our country is about. But what do you do or where do you go to if you want to sell or buy these precious goods?

HanDMade Website

To answer the above questions I would like to introduce you to HanDMadE or HDME.

The concept of HDME came together when co-founders and owners Neil Mackay and Tiffany Sosa were struggling to find the craft supplies they needed online. It was a constant mission to find what they were looking for or even to just get more information. This sparked the idea to start an online store where people could buy and sell handmade items. This is how HDME was born.

HanDMadE or HDME  is an online platform that is dedicated to building a community of buyers and sellers of handmade goods and craft supplies. In this day and age where technology is constantly advancing at a fast rate and we are all working on our phones and tablets this is a plus.

The website is user friendly and easy to access from any mobile device. There are different categories for different designs and creations. Anything from artwork to clothing & accessories to craft supplies, you will find all this and more on the HDME website.

HDME also rotates featured sellers on their website. By doing this the seller gets more exposure and future buyers get to know a bit more about the origin of the product they are buying.

How do I go about selling my products on HDME’s website?

You simply log on to the HDME website and click on Sell on HDME. Here you will find information on signing up and you will also be able to create an Open your Shop account there. It is free to sign up and there are no up front charges.

HDME has bridged the gap between buyers and sellers alike. They have made buying and selling crafts and handmade products as simple as a click of a button on your phone. They aim to turn HDME into a learning place where people can also learn how to make a variety of handmade products.

South Africans have some incredible talent at making items by hand and HDME has now created a bigger platform to allow the buyer to have easier access to purchase these precious pieces. For more information you can go to HDME’s website or you can follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

What is your Niche?

The dictionary definition of niche is: a comfortable or suitable position in life or employment. We all have a niche, something we enjoy or love and want to pursue. For me that would be becoming a blogger, as I enjoy writing and sharing my adventures and experiences with others. Today I am reviewing two businesses to which I have had the pleasure to use their services, and to date have not been disappointed with their products.

Gas Dynamics Logo and Contact Information.

With winter on the horizon here in South Africa all you want to do is come home from a long day of work, shower, climb into your warm pj’s and have a nice cup of hot chocolate and later dinner, but many things are out of our control just like power outages. They can happen any time of the day and you have to be prepared. One evening we had a power outage and out of boredom I was scrolling through Facebook on my phone and came across Gas Dynamics.

Gas Dynamics was founded by Glenda and Sheldon Abrahams which started trading in January 2017. They specialize in refilling old and new gas cylinders. Now when you are dying for something hot to drink or you need to make something to eat, their services definitely come in handy when unexpected power outages hit. I contacted one of the founders Glenda whom I found to be friendly, understanding and professional. The following morning her husband Sheldon came to pick up our empty gas cylinder to refill. Not too long after meeting Sheldon had he returned with the gas cylinder full and delivered right to our front door. I was really impressed by this, as not many businesses do this.

Gas Dynamics aim is to provide efficient and quality services to your front door. Their focus is to reduce time wastage of deliveries and to build long lasting relationships with all their old and new clients in and around the Johannesburg area. I used their services and I was impressed with all the above. So if you are in need to refill your gas cylinders and don’t know where to go, then contact Gas Dynamics via their Facebook page or through the information included in the picture.

Cris Candle Art & Custom Gifts

When it comes to buying gifts for the loved ones in our lives we can feel quite limited. We want the gifts we buy for others to be unique that will show our appreciation for them, but we don’t always know what we are looking for or we just don’t have the time.

A few months ago I came across Cris Candle Art & Custom Gifts. They specialize in customizing almost anything ranging from candles to textiles since 2011. I can personally vouch for these guys, as I have had a few gifts custom made for family and friends.

Depending on what you want customized you can have your order ready by the end of the day. Their products are uniquely made to the specifications of their clients.

To find out more you can follow Cris Candle Art & Custom Gifts on Facebook or you can go to their website http://www.criscandleart.com

The above businesses started with a niche and a dream, which with hard work and perseverance has become a reality. My niche is to write and share these amazing stories of others with you. Dreams do come true no matter how long it takes.

Tell me, What is your niche?

Close your eyes and Make a Wish!

It all begins today!
It all begins today!

With each passing year our birthday’s change just like we do. It’s no longer about the big party or the fancy presents. It’s about what being alive to see another year means to you. For instance, today I will be spending my birthday with my mother and some close friends. We will not only be celebrating my birthday, but also celebrating the start of my first blog!

Welcome to the Diary of a Whimsical Girl!

I will understand if you are confused as to the title of this blog, but my about page explains it all. With this blog I intend to share inspirational stories, information on some of my favourite travel destinations, reviews on my favourite things and journeys of up and coming people and their businesses.

I am #ProudlySouthAfrican

As a South African I am so proud with how far we have come as a country. Yes we still have a long way to go and we have challenges to face and overcome like any other country, but we have so much potential. I will be posting truly inspirational stories of people who followed their dreams and are making things happen for themselves. These stories include local businesses and people from all walks of life.

My time is now.

Today I took a leap of faith and decided that now it is my time. My time to pursue my dreams. My time to focus on the positive and do what makes me happy! This blog is just the start of my journey! It might sound clichéd, but I am finally at a point in my life where I am comfortable and happy with who I am.

I want you to know that you are unique and you serve a purpose on this earth. It is never too late to start something new. You are never too young or too old to pursue your goals and dreams. You are not the opinion of others and at the end of the day it is your happiness that counts. So take a minute and think about that idea or goal you have sitting in the back of your mind. What are the steps that you need to take to make it a reality? Now close your eyes, make a wish and take that first step. Rather tried and failed than not tried at all.

This blog was my first step. I decided that what better day to publish my first post than on my birthday. I look forward to posting many more blog posts and sharing amazing stories with you. While this queen is off to celebrate her birthday, don’t forget that life is a whimsical journey so live it to the fullest!
